Lynn Welchman among the winners at the Palestine Book Awards 2022

Lynn Welchman, Professor of Law, won in the academic books category at the Palestine Book Awards 2022.

Professor Welchman’s book, Al-Haq: A Global History of the First Palestinian Human Rights Organization (University of California Press, 2021) was one of three winners in the academic books category at the Middle East Monitor's Palestine Book Awards presented in London on Friday 4 November.

In reaction to winning the prize, Professor Welchman said:

"Most of the work in this book was of course actually done by al-Haq and al-Haqqers!

"I am hugely honoured by this award, which constitutes a recognition of the courage and determination of al-Haq and other Palestinian human rights defenders who frame human rights struggle as their form of resistance to what can seem overwhelming odds."

The 11th PBA was held in person for the first time since 2019. The awards ceremony followed an informal event held yesterday at London's P21 Gallery, in which authors of the nine shortlisted books discussed their work with the audience and participated in a lively debate.
